Sir Jonathan Bate CBEFBAFRSL is a British academic, biographer, critic, broadcaster, poet, playwright, novelist and scholar who specialises in Shakespeare, Romanticism and Ecocriticism. He is a Foundation Professor of Environmental Humanities in a joint appointment of the College of Liberal Arts, the School of Sustainability and the Global Futures Laboratory at Arizona State University, as well as a Senior Research Fellow at Worcester College in the University of Oxford, where he holds the title of Professor of English Literature.

Sir Jonathan is adamant that Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, did not write the works of Shakespeare.  In fact he thinks he could could use the life of Elvis Presley to construct what he calls fantasies about anyone other than William Shakespeare (birth name Shakspere) being the author.  In this video I invite him to practice on the documented life of William Shakspere first, before he takes on Mr. Presley.

  1. I discovered only recently about the Oxfraud website. Why has nobody yet set up a STRATFRAUD website? SBT is linked to a vast fraud in taking money off people to show them around buildings in Stratford upon Avon that have nothing to do with SHAKE-SPEARE, the poet and dramatist. I should like to ask Jonathan Bate if he has decided yet which of the plays was written by Elvis!
